Hike at Umstead State Park
Details
We're heading back to the Triangle for our third hike of the season. Umstead State Park is one of the few state parks that has hiking, mountain biking, and kayaking all in one place! We'll access the park via the Crabtree Creek Entrance, off Glenwood Ave. Once in the park, make your way to the Big Lake parking area, where boats are able to be put into the lake. There will be restrooms and picnic tables at the parking area as well.
We'll hike the Sycamore Trail - a 7.2 mile moderate trail. This trail is lollipop-shaped, meaning we'll take a spur trail to a loop, then back to the parking area using that same spur trail. Along the hike, we'll cross roads, equestrian trails, and mountain biking trails. During this hike, we'll pass Sycamore Creek and the remains of old homesteads and cemeteries. Even when the park is busy, this trail provides a mountain-like escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.
I know a lot of people will want to carpool, we'll set up a carpool closer to the date of the hike. See you all there!
