Hike Distance/Rating/Elevation - 8.5 miles/Moderately Strenuous/1600 feet of elevation

Disclaimer #1 - This hike is rated as a moderately strenuous hike. Since this hike is rated as a moderately strenuous, there will be no vetting of hikers. With this being a winter hike, all hikers are expected to have layers of clothing, beanies, and gloves. The hike leader does reserve the right to not allow hikers if he feels that they are not prepared for cold weather hiking in the mountains. The hike will be capped at 15 hikers.

Hike Highlights - Brown Gap, Appalachian Trail, winter time ridge line views, Doyles River Falls Trail, Doyles River Falls, Jones Run Trail, Jones Run Falls

Hike Details - We are going to spend MLK Day at one of the best waterfall hikes in the South District of Shenandoah National Park, the Doyles River and Jones Run circuit hike. We are going to form carpools shortly before 8:15 AM at Brownsville Elementary School in Crozet. We are going to make our way to Brown Gap in the South District of Shenandoah National Park. From Brown Gap, we are going to hike the Appalachian Trail northbound to the Doyles River Trail. We are going to turn right onto the Doyles River Trail. We are going to descend on the Doyles River Trail down to the upper and lower falls of Doyles River Falls. After enjoying the Falls, we are going to continue down to the junction with the Jones Run Trail. We are going to turn right onto the Jones Run Trail. We will cross Jones Run before arriving at the Jones Run Falls. After we enjoy the falls, we will continue climbing back up to the ridge line and the Appalachian Trail. We are going to turn right onto the Appalachian Trail and complete the circuit back to Brown Gap. Please make sure to review the hike link below before signing up for this hike.

As is tradition with my hikes, there will be an optional post hike at a local restaurant or brewery. Carpools can be arranged accordingly for those, who wish to partake.

What to Bring - Trekking poles, broken in hiking boots, layers of clothing for cold winter mountain hiking, beanies, gloves, lunch/snacks, 3 to 4 liters of water, traction (Required if there is ice on the trails), good daypack, first aid kit
