The views from Humpback Rocks cannot be beat - but our approach from the south provides a different perspective than the usual climb. We'll start from the very back of the Humpback Rocks picnic area, using a blue blazed connector trail to join up with the AT heading north.
We'll enjoy views of Wintergreen, passing the actual Humpback Mtn peak. Once we reach the rocky outcrop of Humpback rocks we'll enjoy the display of the valley to our west. Then, we'll retrace our steps back the the picnic area. We may choose to continue on the short Catoctin trail to take in the views to the east.

The majority of the trail is packed earth and rock. There are no significant stream crossings.

Equipment and Supplies -- Sturdy hiking shoes or boots are highly recommended. Poles are strongly recommended. The conditions in the mountains are highly variable - wear enough layers to stay warm.
Presently there is no rain predicted for Monday. Of course , bring sufficient water and food for snacks and lunch.
