Let's enjoy the weather together. The prediction is partly sunny with and in the high 70's. Can't get much better than that!

The Sugar Hollow (almost) five- mile hike is quite picturesque and offers six river crossings. If the small parking lot is full, just park on the road. We will begin hiking promptly after introductions, which are at 8:45.

Bring water (and drink it), plus hiking poles and shoes that can handle the water. You won't have time to keep changing shoes, so whatever you wear, you'll wear to the end. You'll have to decide whether to rock hop or wade through the water. Wet rocks can be VERY slippery. Thus, I slosh through the water🤪!

But it is up to you how you cross the river. I bring a change of clothes in case I want to take a dip and drive home in dry clothes. To be honest, I always recommend poles on a water hike. If you don't have them, find yourself a walking stick. You will thank me.

The elevation change isn't substantial, but the trail is interesting and rocky in parts. I find that the GPS settings to get there, on both WAZE and Google, are confusing. Google had me turning left into someone's farm while trying to find Sugar Hollow, so here is what I suggest:

Set your GPS for Stinson Vineyards but don't stop there (Stinson is on Sugar Hollow Road) and continue on Sugar Hollow Road to it's end. Cell service is spotty. You will pass a dam and what looks like a construction site. Keep on going! Do not take the trail at the dam. Toward the end of Sugar Hollow Road, you will be on a gravel road. Sugar Hollow Road ends at the parking lot for the hike.

Leave yourself extra travel time if you haven't yet been to Sugar Hollow. Note: Although the map refers to Blue Hole, we will be hiking on the other side of the river. The parking lot is the same for both hikes.

We will stop for a snack at a gigantic shale rock formation. Those who wish to climb to the top of the waterfall of course may do it.

Normally, I schedule an after hike get-together at a restaurant or vineyard, so for those of you who would like to join Trig and me, let's stop at Stinson Vineyard. Bring lunch to share if you are so inclined.
