I love the views on top of Humpback Rocks. We'll hike this as an out and back on the Appalachian Trail; NOT up the steps climb to the rocks. This series of switchbacks will have your quads talking to you. You'd be happy to bring your poles. Water is a must. I would call this a moderate+ hike. We will stop on at the top of the rocks for a 10 minute snack and a gawk.

The rocks get crowded on the weekend so we'll start at 8:30. We'll meet at the Humpback Rocks parking lot at Mile Post 6 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. (On the left just past the Visitors Center. The Visitors Center has good bathrooms.)

Notes:

  • Leashed dogs are welcome.
  • A plug for poles. Parts of the trail are wet and rocky.
  • No weekend guests. Each hiker must register.
  • Post hike sandwich for those interested. http://www.greenwoodva.com/ Outside seating on picnic benches. Bring a camp chair if you have one. It gets busy on the weekend and seating may be limited.
  • I don't hike in the rain and will cancel if it is nasty.

RSVP: If you find that you're not going to be able to attend the hike, please update your RSVP to "Not Going" as soon as possible to allow those on the wait-list the chance to attend.
