PLEASE NOTE - Since this hike is rated as a strenuous hike, all hikers are going to start on the wait list for this hike until I can verify the hiking experience of all hikers on the wait list. Those who have not hiked a strenuous hike with me have 3 days to answer the following vetting questions.

Hike Highlights - Multiple Vista Points, Rocky Mount Trail, Gap Run Trail, Remote Area of the Park

Backup Hike - Since this hike originates from Skyline Drive, there is the possibility that adverse winter weather could close Skyline Drive. Should Skyline Drive be closed, the backup hike will be the Catlett Mountain Circuit Hike by Old Rag. The change to the backup hike will be noted in the comments section.

Hike Details - This is a lariat/lasso hike that goes into a remote and rugged area in the South District of Shenandoah National Park. We are going to start from the Two-Mile Run Overlook and walk north on Skyline Drive to the concrete trail marker for the Rocky Mount Trail. We will hike the Rocky Mount Trail down to the saddle and trail junction of the Gap Run Trail. We will continue straight onto the Rocky Mount Trail and climb to the summit of Rocky Mount. Our reward for the climb to the Rocky Mount summit will be a nearly 360-degree view. We will descend from the summit of Rocky Mount to the junction with the Gap Run Trail. We will continue on the Gap Run Trail back to the intersection with the Rocky Mount Trail. We will turn left on the Rocky Mount Trail and retrace our steps back to the cars on Skyline Drive. There will be an optional post hike at a local brewery following the hike.
