McAfee Knob - 7.8 miles. 1,811 ft. of elevation gain. Moderately challenging.

Steve and I hiked McAfee Knob in April with hiking pals and want to share it with our MeetUp group. McAfee Knob is one of the most photographed spots on the Appalachian Trail. We plan to hike up the AT and back down the fire road. Here are the details.

I don't need to tell you to wear good hiking boots but I will anyway. Bring plenty of water and pack a lunch. We will stop at the Knob for photos and lunch.

We will meet at the trailhead parking lot on Route 311 and head out after brief introductions. A few notes:

• The parking lot fills up fast; hence the 8:30 AM start.
• Sunscreen and tick spray are key at this time of year.
• Well behaved leashed dogs are welcome.
• I am limiting this hike to 14 people; no guests.
• I get really cranky about no-shows. If you are unable to join us, cancel your RSVP as soon as possible.
• I don't hike in the rain and will cancel the night before if the weather is nasty.
