Overall Run Waterfall - Highest in SNP - Circuit Hike 7.5 miles

At a height of just under 100 feet, Overall Run Falls is the tallest waterfall within Shenandoah National Park. And with the recent rain in the mountains, this spectacular waterfall should have plenty of water cascading over the top of it.

Our circuit hike on this day will encompass 7.5 miles in the Northern District of Shenandoah National Park. Several trails will be utilized in order to complete this circuit. Sections of the trails to be included in our outing are:

Appalachian Trail
Tuscarora Trail
Mathews Arm Trail
Traces Trail
Mathews Arm Entrance Road

The trails listed above will be hiked in the order in which they are listed. At the approximate mid-way point of our group trek, we will break for lunch - this will most likely occur at either the scenic overlook for the Overall Run Falls or at a smaller cascade along Overall Run known as Twin Falls. Please note that our circuit hike will require one crossing of Overall Run.

At the conclusion of the hike, for those that are interested, we can tailgate at Elkwallow Wayside. If this wayside is open, you can purchase snacks and drinks at the camping supply/convenient shop. If you decide to participate, make certain to bring an outdoor chair.

What Else To Bring:

>bring plenty of water or an electro-lyte drink - 2 liters is recommended
>proper hiking boots/shoes
>just in case, a light rain jacket
>lunch and snacks - to be enjoyed at the mid-way point of this hike - overlook for Overall Run Falls or alongside Overall Run to have a view of Twin Falls
>trekking poles are also a good item to have for this hike
