Sunset Paddle at Walnut Creek

Details

Walnut Creek offers a great view of the sunset from the water, so bring your paddleboard, kayak, or canoe and we’ll paddle until just around sundown. The park closes at 9, and we’ll head in from paddling before total nightfall to deflate boards and/or secure watercraft while we still have some light to work with. We should be able to get in a good couple of hours of leisurely paddling before then since the reservoir isn't that large.

Bring a pfd/whistle (non-negotiable), sunscreen, a dry bag, water and any snacks you may want/need. A headlamp could be handy in the case you need to deflate or load things into your vehicle after dark.

Important Things to Note:

  • By law you must have a personal flotation device (lifejacket) and a whistle while you are on the water.
  • There is a fee for the park until 6pm during the summer while lifeguards are employed for the beach area. If you arrive before 6pm a fee of $2 to $3 will be expected, so I don’t suggest showing early, unless you really want to part with a few bucks. The fee station closes at 6 so you should be able to just drive in then without stopping at the front.
