UVA - THE LAWN, PAVILION GARDENS AND “HOTELS” OF THE ACADEMICAL VILLAGE

In this new walk we will explore the Rotunda terraces and the Lawn, all 10 of the walled gardens, and the historic buildings which surround them at this World Heritage site. The gardens contain magnificent plantings and trees for us to notice at a leisurely pace.

We’ll walk about 2.5 miles. Throughout, there are MANY sets of steps and MANY garden gates to be traversed. The elevation gain/loss is only 120 feet but with all the up and down, it feels like more than that. No canine friends on this one.

Meet near the entrance to the UVA Bookstore, which is located behind Newcomb Hall. If you park in the Central Grounds parking garage (FREE on Sundays), take the elevator up to Level 4, and you’re there. Please bring water.

DIRECTIONS/PARKING: The Central Grounds parking garage, address 400 Emmet St S, Charlottesville, VA 22903, is FREE on Sundays. Don't worry about the Parkmobile app on Sundays. There are also 2-hour parking spots along University Avenue.

No shows and repeat last-minute cancelers will be moved to Not Going on future hikes. Thanks for being considerate. WEATHER: Pouring rain or thunder and lightning will cancel this walk. Otherwise, we go.
