Hike Description: The Three Ridges Loop is a 13.5-mile hiking trail in the George Washington National Forest of Virginia that's considered one of the most challenging day hikes in the Charlottesville area. The hike is made up of the Appalachian and Mau-Har Trails, and includes steep climbs, rock scrambles, and many scenic views. The hike will ascend gradually from Love Gap for about 1.5 miles on the fire road to Maupin Field. From there, we will turn south on the AT, stopping along the way to take in the views at Hanging Rock. We will then continue to climb, reaching the summit around the 5 mile mark before descending back to the intersection with the Mau-Har Trail which we will take to its northern terminus at the Maupin Field Shelter. We will retrace our steps for the last 1.5 miles on the fire road back to our cars.
