Steve and I scoped Mount Pleasant today. The views from the summit outcrop are stunning. Here is the description. https://gohikevirginia.com/mount-pleasant-va-loop/

We will hike the blue blazed Henry Lanham Memorial Trail counterclockwise, head to the west side of the summit and then back down. The views from the summit are awesome but involve a rock scramble to reach them. For those who aren’t up for the scramble, there is a smaller viewpoint nearby that does not involve a scramble. We will stop for lunch at the summit.

We will meet at the Mount Pleasant trailhead and begin hiking shortly after introductions. You will see the trailhead sign (a right turn) past the entrance to Cole (Cold Mountain). There is plenty of parking at the trailhead.

As you make your way to the trailhead for the Mount Pleasant hike, note that the last section of Wiggins Spring Road (State Route 755) is not maintained and is VERY bumpy and potholed. You should add 15 minutes to your estimated drive for the last 2 miles of the road. All Trails maps took us to the trailhead.

Notes:

  • I have no cell service at the trailhead.
  • Pack lunch.
  • I am always bossy about water.
  • Leashed dogs welcome.
  • I don't hike in the rain and will cancel if the weather is nasty.
  • If you can no longer attend, please change your RSVP.
