PLEASE NOTE - This is a hike that is going to take us into a remote part of Shenandoah National Park. Everybody is going to start this hike on the wait list until I can verify that hikers can complete 9 miles on remote trails in Shenandoah National Park. I will look at past hikes completed with Get Hiking Charlottesville to make a determination. Hike Highlights - Appalachian Trail, Big Run Loop Trail, Rockytop Trail, Lewis Peak Trail, Lewis Peak Summit Trail, Multiple Ridgeline Views, 360-Degree Views from Lewis Peak
Hike Details - This hike is a favorite hike of this hike leader that takes us to a remote 360-degree summit on Lewis Peak. We will start with a short climb on the Appalachian Trail to the junction with the Big Run Loop Trail. We will turn left on the Big Run Loop Trail and begin a ridge hike out to Lewis Peak. We will continue through the next trail junction onto the Rockytop Trail. We will hike the Rockytop Trail past Austin Mountain to the junction with the Lewis Peak Trail. Along this stretch of trail, we will have multiple ridgeline views and rockfalls as we make our way to the Lewis Peak Summit Trail. Upon reaching the Lewis Peak Summit Trail, we will start climbing via switchbacks to the summit of Lewis Peak. During the climb, we will have multiple views of the Shenandoah Valley, Blue Ridge Mountains, and the Massanutten Ridge. At the summit of Lewis Peak, we will have lunch and take lots of pictures. After lunch we will retrace our steps back to the cars. There will be an optional post hike at a brewery in the Crozet area.
