Bandages and Brews: Stayin’ Alive in the Outdoors
Heading out to the trails soon? Be ready for what Mother Nature can throw at you with a quick, fun, hands-on introduction into Wilderness First Aid!
Join our hiker friends for our Bandages and Brews: Stayin’ Alive in the Outdoors Event, presented by our good friend and Great Outdoor Provision Partner, Mateo Rosefsky. Mateo has been a part of our Charlottesville outdoor community since his involvement in Outdoors at UVA and C’ville’s Outdoor Adventure Social Club. Today we know him from the amazing programs he offers through MEDIC SOLO – offering the areas premier Wilderness First Aid Training and more… Mateo is also a seasoned international adventurer – be sure to ask him about some of his amazing trips around the world.
Attendees will receive first-hand practical advice geared towards hikers and backpackers. Based on time, topics could include typical hiker injuries; First-Aid for things that bite; Friction Blisters (To Drain or Not To Drain? & life threatening story); Hypothermia and story on saving a thru-hiker from evacuation; Story of misdiagnosed Heat Illness that was actually a massive heart attack and how to sleuth that out and treat in the wilderness, and more as time permits with Q&A on any topic…
Attendees - there's more - lets get hands on and practice making a hypowrap (tis the season) - if possible bring a tarp, sleeping bag and sleeping pad and we'll get some quality hands on practice!!!
Of course, we’ll be getting a quick look into these categories and will cover what we can in the allotted time – I’m sure some will want to expand on this introduction and look into MEDIC SOLO’s Wilderness First Aid Courses – offered throughout the year here in Charlottesville.
