PLEASE NOTE - This is going to be an all-day trip down to the Roanoke area. We are going to leave promptly at 7 AM. If going straight to the trailhead, the expected arrival time will be around 9 AM. The carpool will stop just outside of Daleville for a restroom break before going to the trailhead.

Hike Highlights - Appalachian Trail, McAfee Knob Trail, McAfee Knob, Rock Garden, Fall Colors, 270-degree view from McAfee Knob, Rock Garden
Hike Details - We are going to go down to one of the iconic spots on the Appalachian Trail, McAfee Knob. We are going to start the hike by crossing over Rt. 3111 on the brand new bridge that just recently opened. We are going to hike the Appalachian Trail to the McAfee Knob Trail. We will continue on the McAfee Knob Trail back to the Appalachian Trail crossing. We will turn left onto the Appalachian Trail and finish the last mile of climbing up to the iconic location and vista point. After taking a lot of pictures, soaking in the views, and eating lunch, we will continue on the Appalachian Trail to a rock garden where the Appalachian Trail weaves in and out of different rock formations. We will take a side trail to a cut-through and some more views. We will continue on this trail to the McAfee Knob Trail. We will then retrace our steps back to the cars. There will be an optional post hike at a local restaurant following the hike.
