OK GUYS....
🎃 👻
CAMP HOOVER IS OUR HALLOWEEN HIKE
6.5 miles
1,036'
I tried to find a scary, haunted hike, but turns out that's not as easy as it may sound....
so this is where we landed....
I'll do my best to make it fun and there may be an occasional surprise on the trail... ¯*(ツ)*/¯

Rapidan Camp (President Herbert Hoover's former retreat) has a history of human interaction and displacement that has led to some stories of a "haunted" past, along with the general displacement of over 400 families to create the park itself. The park's historical "dark past" is tied to the forced removal of residents to create the park, with some families' homes being destroyed or locked behind them.

# Camp Hoover via Rapidan Fire Rd, Mill Prong, and Appalachian Trail The Camp Hoover/Rapidan Camp hike is a 7-mile moderate loop in Shenandoah National Park, offering scenic views and historical significance as the former retreat of President Herbert Hoover.

  • The trail includes notable landmarks such as Big Rock Falls, "The Creel" house, and the "Brown House," providing opportunities to appreciate both natural beauty and presidential history.
  • The route involves following a combination of blazed trails (white AT, blue Mill Prong/Laurel Prong/Cat Knob, yellow Mill Prong/Fork Mountain)
