Starting & Ending Point - Doyles River Parking Area (Milepost 81.1)
Distance/Elev Gain/Rating - 6.7 Miles/1,532'/Moderately Strenuous
Hike Details - This is a ciruit hike from the Doyles River Parking Area in the Southern District of Shenandoah National Park. The first 2.2 miles is brisk loss of elevation (1,172') down the Big Run Loop Trail. We'll then continue uphill on the same trail for 1.3 miles and intersect Madison Run Spur Trail. After 0.3 miles we'll take a left on the Madison Run Fire Road. After 0.7 miles we'll intersect the northbound AT and stay on it 2.2 miles until returning to the parking area.
Conditions - This is going to be a late winter/early spring hike with around 1,532' of elevation gain. Temps can vary greatly this time of year. Remember temperatures are 10 to 15 degrees colder than lower elevations. Monitor the weather and properly dress for the weather conditions. Suggest layers of clothing and proper gear for variable weather conditions.
