Mau Har Spring Hike (Mod. Strenous)
Details
A spring favorite, this hike winds downhill along Campbell Creek to the lovely sound of babbling brooks and small rushing falls all through the latter half of what is part of the Three Ridges trail in the Three Ridges Wilderness.
Starting from Love Gap, we’ll have a relatively flat hike alongt the fire road to Maupin Field Shelter. From there, taking the Mau Har trail, we’ll descend sharply to the river, and continue to follow Campbell Creek roughly 1.6 miles, passing stream views and small waterfalls. We’ll break for lunch/snacks at a point approximately a little before the trail diverts from the stream (about 3 1/3 mile in).
After a rest we’ll retrace our steps uphill -it is fairly steep going back up until we reach Maupin Field, where we'll be relatively level for the rest of the hike. This hike is well-known for spring wildflowers.
If there is interest in a post-hike gathering we have the option of any of the places along 151 or Basic City in Waynesboro. We can discuss that as a group.
