The Allure and Peril of the Appalachian Trail - A Presentation by Steve Carpenter
Join your hiking friends for another fun and informative evening talking about the Appalachian Trail.
Our presenter, Steve Carpenter, will be talking about his new book and it's gripping account of the Appalachian Trail as a place of beauty, danger, and unforgettable true stories from the trail.
Contrary to Bill Bryson's book's title, hiking the Appalachian Trail isn't just "a walk in the woods." It is a long and strenuous hike and danger abounds for unwary hikers. For many the risk of peril adds to the allure of the trail. In his book, long time hiker Steve Carpenter explores the joys of the trail and the misfortunes that have befallen hikers. Including some history of the trail, Carpenter relays encounters with wildlife, accidents on the trail, stories of sex and murder, meetings with larger than life thru hikers and much more...
When not hiking, Steve resides in Harrisonburg, VA in the Shenandoah Valley.
As usual, Great Outdoor Provision will provide cold beverages, yummy snacks and a few fun giveaways.
