Event Details - Almost every morning I walk from my house in North Downtown out to the intersection of Rio Road and the John Warner Parkway via The Butterfly Greenway. It is great exercise for the cardio. The trail is a shared use paved trail where you have walkers, runners, and bikers early in the morning. It starts as an urban trail and becomes a trail in the woods. A part of the trail includes a section of the Rivanna Trail. The roundtrip for me is around 5 miles. For this walk, we will start from in front of the Fire Department and Rescue Squad on McIntire Road just before the bypass coming from Charlottesville. It will be a total of 4 miles walking on a paved shared use trail with a couple ascents and descents sprinkled along the trail. The steepest climb is near the turnaround spot for this hike. After we reach CATEC, we will turn around and retrace the steps back to the Rescue Squad and Fire Department. Following this morning walk, there will be an optional trip to Bodo's on Preston to have some breakfast.

What to Bring - Good Pair of Walking Shoes, Water Bottle/Bottled Water

Please dress appropriately for a late summer walk with heat and humidity. Even with this easy walk, you will be sweating after completing the hike due to the humidity of this late summer day. Please make sure to being at least a half-liter to liter of water. Everyone can walk at their own pace. It is not a race We will make stops going both directions at the bypass, Melbourne Road, the Meadowcreek Bridge, and the turnaround spot at CATEC.
