Details

We will meet in the north end of the Fishers Gap Overlook parking area; mile post 49.4 in Shenandoah National Park. We will hike on the AT north and then turn on the Salamander Trail as we make our way to Hawksbill Summit, which is the highest peak in the Park. We will stop for a quick snack on the rocks. At the end of the hike we will head to the Big Meadows Wayside (2.7 miles from Fishers Gap at MP 51.2) for lunch. There are picnic benches outside so you can bring your lunch or buy a sandwich.

A few notes:

  • There is a $30 fee to enter Shenandoah National Park.
  • Leashed dogs are welcome. Please keep them on leash.
  • Please bring water as I am bossy about that.
  • Sunscreen and bug spray, please.
  • I don't hike in the rain and will cancel the day before if the weather looks nasty.
  • I cap my mountain hikes at 14 people (no guests).
  • Please please update your attendance if you can not attend. (If you are listed as going or on the wait list.)
