GetHiking! Townsend Trail along Lake Townsend CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER

Details
Start your Cinco de Mayo celebration off right with 7 miles on the Townsend Trail in Greensboro. The trail is both part of the Greensboro Watershed Trail system and part of the Mountains to Sea trail.
We'll do a down and back with 3.5 miles each way as we follow the southern edge of Lake Townsend. The trail gets up close and personal with the lake with points where you can easily dip a hand in as you walk by.
The hike is easy to moderate. There is uneven terrain and exposed roots, but it is well maintained. It's mostly level with a few, short hills. Bring water and a snack to keep hydrated and fueled. Ticks are starting to come out so bug spray is also recommended. Finding the trail head parking is tricky -- please read below:
Due to the expansion of the Bryan Soccer Center in 2017, all online information on parking is outdated. My GPS has the start at: 36.16996, -79.74383. Likely you'll come down Rudd which changes to Southshore as you cross over the railroad tracks. Stay on Southshore and go past the Bryan soccer center (on your left) and Golf center (on your right). About 0.25 miles past the center there is a parking lot on your left for fields 15-19 -- pull in there.
