Achtung, hikers! Perhaps you've heard about what big walkers Europeans are, about the thousands of miles of trail and thousands of walking/hiking routes that crisscross the continent. A big driver behind the EuroHiking obsession, especially in Germany?

Volksmarch clubs.

On National Trails Day, we will unite with the Triangle Volksmarch Club for a 5.6-mile afternoon hike from the N.C. Museum of Art to Umstead State Park via greenway and trail. Along the way, we'll visit four stations — at the Museum of Art, the Prairie Ridge EcoStation, Schenck Forest and Umstead — where you'll get a stamp and learn a little something. Afterward, we'll head down to Cameron Village and party from 4 - 7 p.m. with our pals at the Great Outdoor Provision Co. A great way to celebrate the gift of trails and learn about other hiking cultures.
