Pleasure House Point Natural Area was saved from development by a community-wide conservation effort. It is one of the last large waterfront parcels that remains undeveloped along the Lynnhaven River.
Pleasure House Point Natural Area derives it's name from the tavern or "ordinary" that stood where Pleasure House Rd. and Lookout Road intersect today. This "ordinary" had multiple business functions and strategic military value throughout its storied existence from the mid 1640s to its destruction by the British during the War of 1812. Today these last remaining undeveloped acres are home to a wide assortment of coastal birds and water fowl, along with varieties of turtles, native reptiles, and aquatic life within the two ponds on the property.
