Bavarian Alps - Edge Mountain (Mt Vaŋk) Hike
The Vaŋk (English pronunciation: Wank) is a mountain in southern Germany, situated in the Loisach valley close to the Austrian border in the southwestern Ester Mountains range near Garmisch-Partenkirchen. It is 1,780 metres (5,840 ft) at the summit. The mountain is crowned by a grassy summit which has views over Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the surrounding region. A mountain hut on the summit, the Wank-Haus, provides food and accommodation, and a nearby scientific observatory plays a role in monitoring atmospheric and climatic conditions. The Wank is a destination for hikers, day-trippers from Garmisch-Partenkirchen and paragliders.

Munich
On Sunday you can visit the Old Town of Munich or the English Gardens or enjoy a beer or two at one of the Beer Halls or Gardens.

The Hike
This is 18Km hike which will take us up Mt Vaŋk (1780m). We will start our hike from Garmisch-Partenkirchen railway station making our way across to Wankbahn Talstation from where we hike up to Mt Vaŋk. We will stop for lunch at the summit, after lunch we will head back down towards the town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen or you have the option to take the cable car back down.

Flights

Book any accommodation within your budget close to the Munich Ost (Railway Station). I have booked the following accommodation Leonardo Hotel.

Payment
This is FREE hike unlike other outdoor walking groups we do not charge for one day hikes.

Food & Drinks
Bring water and snacks/sandwiches can be purchased at Munich Station, there is also a mountain restaurant/bar and toilets where we plan stop for a break.

*Note
As this is a short weekend trip too Munich the hike takes place just outside Munich in a town called Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Which will require you to book your own flights and accommodation.
