3. Event Guide

hey people! go hiking!

more info on how we run stuff. sort of standardized. not always though. comments welcome.

GuestsOne or two guests are welcome at most of our Meetups; the activity organizer makes that decision. In some cases they may be required to sign a waiver of liability. Guests included on pay-in-advance events will need to be paid for. As a member, you are responsible for your guests. Please inform them of our Good Member Guide before you attend.

Kids as Guests
If you would like to bring a minor (under age 21) to an event, please contact the organizer. When dealing with an outfitter, they will most likely need to have a waiver signed by the child's legal guardian, and Get Out Philly may require the same. We may also need to plan for kid-sized gear. Again, you assume all responsibility for your guests, including children.

Please post that you'll be bringing a child in your event RSVP. Some folks may not feel comfortable with a child around, and they have a right to know that kids will be present.

Dogs as Guests
Dogs are welcome on many of our hikes; again, please check with the event organizer regarding their wish to include pets. Some trails will be too difficult for dogs, or they may not be allowed in the park. Make sure you have all the info before bringing your dog along; this is your responsibility, not the organizer’s.

Your dog should be in reasonable shape for the length and difficulty of the hike. You will always be expected to keep your dog on a leash and clean up after him. Also of course don't forget plenty of water and a container for him to drink out of.

If you plan on bringing a dog, please note that in your RSVP so other attendees are not surprised or uncomfortable when they arrive.

WaitlistsGet Out Philly uses the “Manual” waitlist function. This means that if you are on the waitlist for an event, you will be sent an email when a spot opens up, on a first-come, first-served basis. If you don’t check email very regularly but are SURE you will be able to attend, contact the organizer and he or she will be able to add you if space comes up.

Many people may join a waitlist, but very often will not come back when spaces open up…so some events will have a waitlist but open spaces. If a spot is open, anyone is able to take it, regardless of who is on the wait list. cool

Event NotificationsMeetup.com will automatically send reminders. The best way to stop receiving these automatic emails is respond “no” to the event. Many Get Out Philly Organizers will send personalized reminders with more detailed info!

We will often ask you and your guests to sign in to events where we’re expecting a large number of people. Look for the event leaders with the sign in sheets so you aren’t marked as a no-show!

LocationsFor our planning purposes, "Center City" = 30th Street Station. Carpools strongly encouraged!. Event Organizers do not arrange carpools. Plan ahead to make sure you have a ride ahead of time! The Good Member Guide has more info on carpooling.

CancellationsIf an event is to be canceled due to weather or other conflicts, we will make every attempt to cancel by 5 pm the night before; 9 pm at the latest. The activity organizer will specify their cancellation policy before the event.

If you won't be able to access your email after the designated time, send your phone number to the activity organizer so that we can call you if the event is to be canceled. THE CANCELLATION EMAIL MAY ONLY BE SENT TO MEMBERS WHO RESPOND "YES." See the Good Member Guide for more info on updating your RSVP!
