Adirondacks Hike & Kayak Trip (2 1/2 Days)

Details

It's here...Time to post up the Adirondacks trip that we have talked about. Planning to leave at 1pm on Friday (7/25) and return around 7pm or so on Sunday (7/27).

The game plan is to camp in the Moose River Plains just outside of Inlet, NY. That's about a 5 1/2 hour drive from here for those that are wondering. Just a heads up...the drive into the Plains is a pretty rough dirt road. Most cars can handle it, but it can be rough going. We can get camp set up when we first get there and try to sneak in a short hike, maybe to Icehouse or Helldiver Pond. The next morning we can either hike first, kayak first or whatever the group wants to do. There are plenty of great hikes in the area. And lots of ponds to explore by kayak...Wakely, Icehouse, Helldiver, etc. Lost ponds is also a good hike, but may be a wee far to drag kayaks to. If the group is feeling really ambitious we can try Wakely Mt. It is just under the 4,000' mark. Mostly easy going until you get to about 3/4 of a mile from the summit, then it gets pretty challenging with the elevation. Or we can opt for an easier hike to Squaw Lake, or Falls Pond. (Falls pond is the one in the picture for this meetup group.) Anyway, lots of options. We can either cookout Saturday night, or if everybody is exhausted we can head back into town for a pint and some food at the Screamin' Eagle. Sunday Morning, more hiking and kayaking or just relaxing before heading home.

This is a very remote location, camping is free and is actually nicely maintained, with picnic tables, fire pits and privies. There are plenty of sites to be able to get away from other campers too.

Carpooling...I highly recommend some carpooling for this trip. This will make the cost of getting there and back less expensive for everybody. Between tolls and the 2 tanks of gas it typically costs me around $180 to make this trip on my own. Split that cost with 2-3 people and it makes things way easier. I can haul 2, maybe 3 kayaks too.

Any questions shoot me a message, otherwise get signed up and lets get out for an adventure!
