Bootstrap Workshop (Beginner Level)

Bootstrap, an open-source front-end framework, is one of most popular of its kind for building responsive, mobile-friendly projects on the web. Composed of flexible HTML, CSS, and JavaScript components, it allows designers and developers of all skill levels to launch beautiful, fully-functional websites quickly. The best part: it’s completely free to download and use! In this workshop, we will guide you through some best practices when using Bootstrap’s grid system, component library, and JavaScript plugins. We will apply these practices while building a responsive resume site from scratch.
This hands-on workshop will cover:
• Downloading Bootstrap and adding it to an HTML documentWorking with Bootstrap’s responsive grid system
• Styling images and buttons with Bootstrap classes
• Working with Bootstrap’s reusable user interface components
• If we have time: incorporating Bootstrap’s “Scrollspy” Javascript plugin on your resume site
CLASS DATE:
Tuesday, May 16th, 6:00 - 9:00pm
WHAT TO BRING TO CLASS:
At this time, you will need to provide your own laptop - PC or Mac - to participate in the course.
PREREQUISITE KNOWLEDGE:
• Good working knowledge of HTML & CSS, and how they work together
• Knowledge of basic CSS targeting (classes, IDs, elements, etc.)
• Basic website HTML structuring using divs, and how to apply classes to HTML elements
SCHOLARSHIPS:
We offer needs-based scholarships for people interested in taking this course who may not be able to afford the registration fee. To receive a scholarship for this course, you must fill out this application (http://goo.gl/forms/hGTKG7Iaej) and you must commit to being present for all four sessions of the class. Applications must be submitted at least one week prior to the class start date - any applications submitted within the week of class start will not be considered. Scholarship winners will be informed via email one week prior to the class start date.
INSTRUCTOR:
Sarah Sachs is a frontend developer currently working at Ample in Cincinnati, Ohio. She believes being a developer is a lifelong learning process and revels in picking up new languages and sharing useful advice. When she’s not behind the computer, Sarah enjoys going out to the movies with her husband, hiking with her dogs, and reading comic books.

POLICIES & GUIDELINES:
All attendees are expected to abide by the Girl Develop It Code of Conduct. At this time, you must be 18 years of age or older to enroll in a class.
At least 4 students will need to enroll for this course for it to be hosted. If we have less than 4 students registered for the class as of three days prior to the class start date, we will cancel the class and reschedule for a later date. Any students registered at that time will be refunded their full registration fee.
Girl Develop It is unable to offer refunds for cancelled registrations or no-shows. We only extend refunds if the class is cancelled by the GDI leaders and organizers due to low enrollment. If a class is rescheduled and you cannot make the rescheduled date, we will also extend a full refund of your registration fee.
