JavaScript: Intro to the DOM (3-Class Series)

Details

Are your web site projects static or missing some wow factor? Do you browse other sites and wonder how they’ve implemented dynamic elements that create a more interesting user experience? Or maybe you’ve learned HTML & CSS, and now want to understand how JavaScript completes the picture.

The secret is the Document Object Model—also known as the DOM. The DOM is what allows developers to use JavaScript to control HTML & CSS and bring web pages to life.

This new mini-cohort series will introduce you to the basics of working with the DOM—what it is, how to access it, and how to use it to work with HTML and CSS elements on our web pages. In the process, you’ll get to build a simple To-Do List web application using all three languages—HTML, CSS and JavaScript!

The series will cover:

Learning about DOM events and event listeners
Responding to user interactions on our web pages
Adding elements to the DOM to create a to-do list app
Querying and updating a page after it’s loaded
Using browser (Chrome/Firefox) Developer Tools
