Help Build Philadelphia LadyHacks Website - a Hackathon for Women
Details
Tristin Hightower, the co-founder of GirlGeekDinners Philly, is planning the first ladies hackathon in Philadelphia. While the details are being ironed out, the date and location has been confirmed for March 1-2nd at WHYY on 6th and Race. Add it to your calendar right now!
To prepare for the event, we're looking for GDI volunteers to help build the website. If you're familiar with HTML/CSS and/or WordPress, come to our organizers meeting in the Bellevue next Tuesday, February 12th. Designers are also welcome!
A Note From Tristin:
Hi everyone -- I'm super excited to work with you to develop a site for the event! Bring your ideas :) Here are some of my initial thoughts and we can discuss more on Tuesday while we hammer something out.
- Similar event in Berlin, Germany the same weekend as ours! Here is their website should anyone want to see what they're up to: http://berlingeekettes.github.com/hackathon (We are not going as big as this for our first one... perhaps next time :))
- If there are any designers, we can brainstorm a color/scheme & logo -- if not, placeholder text/colors work :)
- I'm assuming WordPress will be the easiest but am open to whatever folks think will work. We need to be able to have multiple people of various skill levels updating the site from a content perspective.
- I need to use Google Analytics for reporting back to sponsors. I'll get the stuff started for that.
There are a variety of pages we'll need (purpose of event, who's involved, projects completed, photos (we can use flickr), a Twitter feed (#ladyhacks), etc). Pages don't need content if we don't have it (I have some) but placeholders or easy-to-turn-on will do.
I own ladyhacks.net -- over the weekend I'll hook it up to some hosting (probably Dreamhost since that is what we use in my house personally).
If you have any questions or comments about the site, please let me know. And I hope you all will be able to attend the event!
