The Girlhood Table is our monthly conversation gathering. Some months we discuss a book, other months a shared theme but the goal is always the same: thoughtful conversation in an intimate setting.

For March, we’re traveling back.

Theme: Set in an Ancient Civilization
This month, each participating reader will choose a book set fully or partially in an ancient civilization [The first settled and stable communities that became the foundation for later states, nations, and empires.]

Think:

  • Ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, Rome
  • The Indus Valley, Ancient China
  • Early African kingdoms and empires
  • Mythological worlds rooted in ancient belief systems
  • Or imagined ancient civilizations filled with dragons, fairies, royalty, warriors, and gods

Historical fiction, fantasy, mythology, alternate worlds, or non-fiction are all welcome... as long as the story is grounded in an ancient society.
Throughout the month, you’ll read your chosen book independently. Then we’ll gather around the table to share:

  • What civilization you explored
  • The power structures and belief systems within it
  • The role of women and marginalized voices
  • What felt ancient… and what still feels familiar

No two books will be the same... and that’s the point.

Discussion location and final details will be shared shortly. This is your official save-the-date.

⚠️ Content Note
Ancient settings often include themes of war, patriarchy, violence, religion, and social hierarchy. Please engage at whatever level feels right for you during discussion.

This is one of Girlhood’s standing monthly gatherings.
We look forward to gathering around the table with you.
