MTB - Behind Gibbler Mountain

Details

Physically moderate/difficult, technically moderate with a few difficult sections. This mountain bike double-track and jeep road makes for a 15.2 mile ride behind Gibbler Mountain. Cactus Park turnoff is 17 miles from Grand Junction. Just past Whitewater turn west on Highway 141, after 9.1 miles, turn left on a dirt road marked with a "Cactus Park" sign. Park in a parking lot with kiosk and potty 1/2 mile up the road. Low clearance cars may not clear the slickrock, be cautious or carpool.

There is a descend from the shoulder of Gibbler mountain down to Gibbler Gulch that sometimes is quite steep. I have not done this loop but the author's of "River City Rides" note this as an enjoyable ride!

Not recommended for beginners, or townie or hybrid bikes. Please bring a helmet, plenty of drink and snacks, and adequate spare tubes and repair parts.

If you want a copy of the map and write-up, comment with an e:mail address.
