Explore route to Mt Lincoln (Adventurous hike, may be hard, easy MTB)
Details
Mount Lincoln is the mountain to the east of Mt Garfield. We used to have a good way to hike up there but that route now crosses the territory of the shooting range, which isn't a great thing.
I'd like to go up there and explore and try to find a decent route. We'll MTB from near the Cameo exit of I-70 up Coal Canyon, then after those 4 or so easy dirt-road miles up, head up the ridge to Mt Lincoln. If that route doesn't work out, we can go toward Stagecoach and modify the old route so it doesn't go into the actual shooting range.
I think both routes may be relatively difficult hiking, we'll see. If we can find something good we'll do an event for everybody, but this one is for adventurous souls only.
You'll want good hiking shoes in addition to whatever you use riding up there. You may want to strap a hiking pole to your bike.
Exit I-70 at exit 45 (Cameo), the one where Kokopelli Farms is. Head north on the main road toward the shooting range. Cross the river, then just after you cross the railroad tracks, and just before crossing the canal, there's a wide dirt parking spot on the right. Park there and we'll start from there. (If you want a shorter ride you could go to the Main Canyon trailhead parking lot.)
this pin should be perfect.
It's possible to drive all the way up there instead of biking if you have a good vehicle for it. A Subaru can make it. Biking is way easier.
