Navigating privacy dilemmas in crisis response. COVID-19 response in New Zealand healthcare
Presented by Alfred Chikomba

Have you ever imagined how healthcare organisations protect your privacy when responding to a crisis? What happens when there is a conflict of interest from organisations wanting to use the data to expedite the crisis response? How best should healthcare organisations manage data when responding to a crisis? In this presentation, part of a PhD thesis, Alfred will talk about how healthcare organisations in New Zealand addressed privacy issues and associated challenges during the COVID-19 response, providing practical insights into privacy compliance and risk management.
Speaker: Alfred Chikomba
Alfred is currently the Collections Development and Assessment Librarian at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington and has over a decade of experience in the broader Information Management field. Before moving to New Zealand, he worked as a principal archivist at the National Archives of Zimbabwe. Alfred is interested in understanding the impact of digital technologies in information management and how organisations may address the associated challenges and leverage the benefits of technology.
