An urban meander in Bridgeton
Details
The city is full of incredible details - what happens when we slow down and pay attention?
Join us for a gentle urban meander, starting in Bridgeton and ending somewhere in the city centre. We'll take our time, put our phones away and notice the place around us — the buildings and their details, the sounds of the streets, the patterns of the pavements, the bits of nature growing between the cracks and the small details that are easy to miss.
The meander will be gently facilitated by a qualified mindfulness teacher, Simo Bradley, with a few simple prompts to help us look and listen more closely. The idea is to simply spend some time being somewhere, rather than rushing through it.
The meander will be relaxed and lightly social, with plenty of opportunity to chat but no pressure to do so. We'll finish with coffee and cake at a local café and a chance to get to know each other.
The event is about noticing and being present, not covering a particular distance or reaching a particular destination.
//
Schedule:
13:00 - meet by the Bridgeton Cross Bandstand, just by Bridgeton train station
13:10 - brief introduction by the walk leader, and then we set off
14:30-ish - we finish the meander and find a local café for coffee and cake - we will aim to finish closer to the city centre
//
Cost: This meander is free to attend. Donations towards costs are welcome but not essential - although you have to buy your own cake
Clothes: Comfortable shoes and clothes suitable for the Glasgow weather. We’ll be outside for an hour or more, so bring a waterproof in case of rain
Pace: This is a slow meander, not a power walk. We will go at a pace which is comfortable for all
Safety: We will stick together as a group throughout. Please don't wander off without letting us know!
Accessibility: The route may include paved paths, grass, uneven ground and some slopes. If you have specific accessibility needs, please get in touch beforehand and I’ll do my best to accommodate them
Weather: We’ll go ahead in ordinary Glasgow weather. If it’s truly horrendous, we’ll skip the walk and go straight for the cake
