This user group was founded as an independent body in early 2017 and it looks to bring the IT community within Glasgow and surrounding areas together.
The group is a community driven group delivering the type of content, speakers and experiences that the IT community in Glasgow wants. The group is open to developers, architects, consultants, engineers and enthusiasts. Participating in GAUG meetups has many benefits including:

Most organisations believe their privileged access is secure.Multi-Factor Authentication is enabled. Conditional Access policies are in place. Privileged Identity Management (PIM) is configured. On paper, everything looks right.
In practice, privileged access remains one of the most common paths to compromise.
This session explores why.
Rather than focusing on individual controls, this session examines how privileged access is actually used in real-world environments, and why environments that appear secure frequently fail under operational pressure. Drawing on familiar patterns from on-premises administration through to modern cloud environments, it highlights how common behaviours such as convenience, speed, and “just getting it done” introduce risk, even when the correct controls are in place.
The session then introduces a structured, practical approach to improving privileged access, focusing on how identity, access policies, device trust, and operational practices must work together as a cohesive system rather than isolated features. Particular attention is given to isolation as a critical but frequently overlooked control in modern environments.
Attendees will leave with a clear understanding of where typical implementations fall short, and how to take practical steps to improve their own environments using the tools they already have.
This session will reference Microsoft Entra ID, Conditional Access, and Privileged Identity Management (PIM), and is aimed at Level 200 attendees who are familiar with these controls and want to understand how to apply them effectively in real-world scenarios.
