The effects of AI deconstructing the hype and harm

We're delighted to welcome Calum McDonald of the Scottish AI Alliance as our guest speaker.
AI is often wrapped in grand promises: neutrality, efficiency, inevitability. Yet beyond the myth it can magnify bias, deepen inequality, and obscure accountability.
This session unpacks those hidden dynamics, showing how technology is never separate from human choices. We will explore how reasoned scrutiny, attention to lived realities and values like fairness and dignity can shift AI from hype towards genuine ethical practice.
Guest speaker details will be published shortly.
Hybrid meeting kindly hosted by Glasgow Humanists in-person at the Garnethill Multicultural Centre and online (via Zoom).
You can just show-up, but it’s helpful if you can RSVP through Meetup to give our volunteer organisers an idea of how many people to expect, and in order to receive the online joining instructions if you prefer to join via Zoom.
