Event Description:
This talk is about the historic roots of the EU and the structural, economic, social and legal responses to the great conflicts of the 19th and 20th century, the world we have now and why the values of the EU are good for Humanists and moderate non-Humanists alike.
About the Speaker:
Martin Roche has been a pro-EU activist for over 50 years. He sits in the national committee of the European Movement in Scotland and campaigned for the Remain vote in Kent, during the 2016 Brexit referendum. In a professional capacity, he advised the Yes sides in the Maltese and Swedish EU accession referendums. He regularly writes about politics for The Scotsman, The Herald and Bylines Scotland. He is a graduate of Aberdeen University, with an MA (Hons) in Political Studies.
