May Meetup - The Zombie Service Worker
Details
Welcome to the GlasgowJS May Meetup! We’ll be meeting on Tuesday 12th May, 18:30 at the University of Strathclyde Teaching and Learning Building Room 330. We will have socialising and networking with your fellow JavaScript developers with drinks and pizza followed by a talk from Yevhen Husak on "The Zombie Service Worker":
> This is the story of a service worker that was deployed, reverted, and forgotten in a single day. Four months later, after a major product launch, 25k+ users started seeing an application that no longer existed.
> In this talk, you'll learn how service workers actually work — through an incident that turned into a detective story. Misleading clues, a red herring that cost us days, and a Catch-22 that prevented the fix from reaching anyone.
> Every wrong turn in the investigation reveals a service worker concept — by the time we kill the zombie, you'll know exactly how it stayed alive.
> And I'll leave you with the strategies we wish we'd had — so you can use service workers confidently without creating your own zombie.
People with all levels of experience are welcome - from Senior developers to people who are just taking their first steps with JavaScript.
Supporters tickets with an optional and flexible contribution amount are available so that you can contribute to the running costs of the group.
Space is limited, so keep your RSVP status up to date (and cancel your ticket) if your plans change.
If you would like to speak or volunteer for future events then please get in touch via our speaking and volunteering form, or join our Discord.
If travel costs are a barrier to attending, please let us know — we have a diversity and hardship fund.
We will be live-streaming on the Scottish Technology Club YouTube Channel.
We are using Luma as our ticketing system for this event. If you choose to RSVP on Meetup and share your email
with us, then we will transfer your registration to the Luma system where you
may get invites for future events.
We have a Discord server for people to share links, tips, jobs and JavaScript
problems — join via the link on
Scottish Technology Club. Feel free to join
the #personal-websites channel and share your work in advance.
