Update: Future of the group

Hello all

As you may have noticed we haven't organised a meeting since August 2025. This is because our regular meeting venue (Cinebar in Cinema World) closed.

We secured a new venue at The Gamer Club, a private members club in Glasgow. However, as we were guests we choose only to inform regulars of those meetings to limit out footfall - attached are some of the pictures of the books we read. We've actually been very comfortable and the look for a new public venue fell off. Apologies to any new or returning members who may have been interested in attending a meeting during this period when none was publicly posted.

I would like to thank The Gamer Club for hosting us these 8 months.

Regarding the future of this group - separately, Meet-Ups organiser fees increased last year to a level I find unreasonable (I understand this is an issue for a number of other groups also). The current 6-month subscription on this group ends close of May and I will not be renewing. The group will be dissolved after a 15 day grace period mid-June.

The regular members have discussed options to continue the group and the most appealing option has been offered by The Glasgow Geek Social (The Gamer Club's own meet-up group). They currently run a Sci-Fi book group, and have offered for us to continue our meetings on their account. This gives us a platform, and increases the offerings to their own membership.

I will look to post our first themed event ("Dictators / Tyrants") for Thursday 28 May on their meet-ups shortly. If you are interested please register as a member with their meet-up group.

I just wish to thank everyone who has attended the Glasgow Sci-fi, Fantasy and Horror Book Group over the last... 12? 14? years we've run. And I hope to see many of you again as part of The Glasgow Geek Social events.
