Foreign Aid - A Blessing or a Curse?

Development assistance from wealthy countries to developing nations has frequently been seen in both positive and negative lights. When used properly, it can meet basic needs and reduce poverty. In humanitarian crisis, it is often critical to saving lives. On the other hand, foreign aid has also been blamed for distorting local markets, serving as a target of corruption and increasing colonial-style economic dependency.

With the recent dismantling of USAID - one of the world's largest foreign aid agencies - the debate on whether foreign aid is a blessing or a curse has been renewed. There may not be any simple answer but we have several members who will be there to provide their perspectives and stoke the debate.
