Tech Talks by Fortech: Dino Esposito – The Force of Simplicity in Software

Details
We are pleased to announce the first, of many, Tech Talks powered by Fortech, an initiative driven by our Brașov Team. Tech Talks is about knowledge sharing, technology, the people behind it, and last but not least, about our community.
In this edition, our guest speaker and well-known author of 20+ .NET books published by Microsoft Press, Dino Esposito, will talk about The Force of Simplicity in Software using an ASP.NET application as a guideline.
The KEYNOTE
His keynote will summarize Domain-Driven Design and jump to devising of apps in a top-down fashion using a ref template for the records.
The world of software is funny because it develops under the continuous action of two untamable forces: formal design patterns and pragmatism. Domain-driven Design (DDD) has been the mantra for over 15 years, but there are situations in which it helps and situations in which it’s just hype. Finding pragmatic advice in it, and separating the wheat from the chaff, is the Holy Grail. Funny enough, while tons of words are spent on design patterns very few realistic templates exist. Even reference applications crafted to be the starting point of further applications tend to be padded with must-have features that mostly aim to show how smart the author is rather than helping the user. Finally, the philosopher’s stone of the decade: AI. Intelligence in UI is one thing—improving and smoothing the user experience - AI all the way through is quite another. AI, in general, won’t save the world, but it just solves very specific problems for which you have done a lot of work in data engineering. AI does help, but it doesn’t need hype.
When you proceed top-down, you are forced to focus on UX, and then you need it to be intelligent, without specific AI algorithms. In the end, your code is tailor-made for the problem; hence, it is simpler in a way. Or, as Einstein used to say, “Everything should be made as simple as possible, but no simpler.”
