Speakers Corner: GlobalNet21 & Africa Changemakers Group

The GlobalNet21 & Africa Group together with Impact Hub Westminster is holding a Speakers Corner event (for more about this group see - http://dadamac.net/blog/20140303/six-months-gn21-and-africa-group ).

Speakers will have five minutes to talk and then five minutes to answer questions. Afterwards there will be a time for further discussion and networking.

Speakers will include:

David Smith - of British African Business Alliance - Speaking about business solutions in Africa - http://www.BritishAfrican.org

Victoria Clayton - Vicky will be talking about United, a community of students collaborating across borders on social action projects, and her experiences of trying to harness enthusiasm and empathy to do more good than harm.

Rachel Nalumoso - who will share her plans to work as an independent educational resources development specialist - supporting local publishing in local languages - alongside a Ugandan organisation called LABE (Literacy and Adult Basic Education) in 6 districts in northern Uganda where the educational infrastructure is being repaired after many years of warfare and child abduction.

Sam Lehane - will talk about his work setting up Camara (camara.org) which supplies refurbished hardware, educational software,teacher training and maintenance­ support to disadvantaged schools in Africa.

Pamela McLean - will introduce "First Thursdays" - an online space where a small group of people based in Africa, UK, and elsewhere have been meeting for an hour, once month since around 2007. They communicate through typed messages. She'll explain how members of this GlobalNet21 and Africa group can join in.

Understanding and supporting our changemakers

Ours is a "learning and doing" group, where we try to understand on-the-ground realities and we have opportunities to get involved with various changemakers in our midst (or closely connected with us).

We will be meeting in one of the smaller spaces at HubW this time. The disadvantage is that we may need to limit numbers. The advantage is that if the numbers are smaller then everyone gets more chance to contribute to the discussions sparked by our speakers.

This ties in well with our emphasis on creating a group where people get to know each others interests, and where the speakers are part of the group.

Your Annual Subscription

Although membership of our site is free we do expect all those who attend our events to pay an annual subscription that covers attendance not just one meeting but also to the vast majority of our meetups and webinars for any one year. It also allows you to bring one guest free to every meeting or webinar.

If you are unable to pay online this way can you please let us know and we will make other arrangements. Also we never refuse membership to anyone who is unable to pay so please let us know if there are difficulties this way and you will still be able to join in.
