(VS) Gorges State Park, Wintergreen Falls, 1500 EG, 10 miles.

** Update**; I did a test hike yesterday and learned that the last 0.7 mile of trail from Wintergreen camp to Wintergreen falls is VERY primitive and hard to find in several places. Given this, I am changing the hike to be only from trailhead to Wintergreen camp and back. We may test a bit of the primitive trail and see how the group likes it but we will likely not do the whole thing. Sorry all, I just am not comfortable taking a full group on that trail, if there is a chance someone will get hurt. The rest of the trail is fine and Wintergreen camp is on the Toxaway river so still great for lunch, and there are great views of other falls though from a bit of distance.

Trailhead is off Frozen Creek Rd which may be accessed from US64 or US 178 south of Rosman NC. We will follow the Auger Hole Trail to Wintergreen Trail then follow the Thompson river to Wintergreen falls where we will have lunch. Retrace for return. We’ll follow a modest pace of 2.5 mph, depending on terrain.

Plan will be to meet at trailhead at 10:00 AM for prompt departure at 10:15. For directions search Google maps for “Frozen Creed Rd Trailhead”. 35.108539, -82.883171

Attendees wishing to arrange carpooling may do so separately.
