Hike Summary: 10.6 miles, 2125 ft. elevation gain, pace: 2.5 mph. avg.
Hike leader: Charles D. (704) 654-7041
Hike Details: We will access the Middle Prong by starting our hike at the Moutains-to-Sea Trail crossing of Hwy 215 (Lake Logan Rd.). We hike west and ascend around 800 ft. in 2.5 miles to reach a high ridge line (5800 ft. above sea level). We will follow this ridge
line northward until we reach our lunch spot on Green Knob. After lunch we retrace our steps along the ridge, then drop down through a scenic meadow before climbing Mt. Hardy. When you are on top of Mt. Hardy (6,110 ft. elevation), you may enjoy the distinction of being on top of the most southern 6,000 footer in the Eastern U.S. After Hardy, we retrace out steps back to vehicles. The complete track of this hike stays above 5,000 ft. elevation! As we are in a Wilderness Area, I abide by the published regulations and limit the hike to 10 attendees.
