Gospel of Mary - Overview and Discussion
Details
Ten of its nineteen pages are gone. The Greek original survives in two scraps from an Egyptian rubbish heap. And the fragment we do have contains one of the most explosive scenes in early Christian literature: Mary Magdalene calming the terrified disciples, describing the soul's ascent past Darkness, Desire, Ignorance, and Wrath — and Peter refusing to believe the Savior would tell a woman anything he hadn't told them. Levi defends her. The text breaks off. Two thousand years later we're still having the argument. Join us as we read the Gospel of Mary line by line — what survives, what was lost, and what it asks of us. A link to the full text can be found here: http://www.gnosis.org/library/marygosp.htm
