πŸŽ„ Merry Christmas London Gophers!!! πŸŽ„ (and a forthcoming wonderful 2026 to you!)

'Tis the time of year to think about friends and loved ones, to appreciate the past year, and to look to the future for all the potential it has! In the spirit of this, the lovely people of the Rust London User Group have been in touch with us to set up a joint event!

We'll have a couple of Go talks, a couple of Rust talks, and will end on a discussion panel for Q&A with all four of our speakers.

QUICK APPEAL!!!
The Rustaceans have asked us to chip in a thought or two on our Go (& other) experiences. They're hoping to use our feedback to help, in part, decide on the next decade of development of their own language. I think this would be a fine thing for our community to help out with if you can spare the time, and it would be a great way for us to thank them for organising the event for us all!

You can answer the survey here, and it would be topping if you did!

==== πŸ““ AgendaπŸ““ =====

(Certain timings and orders may be subject to change)

6:00pm: Arrival, Food & Refreshments
6:30pm: Introduction

6:35pm: πŸ—£οΈ Sean M. Tracey: Building Native AI Apps with Wails

In this talk, Sean will cover his experience of building a Desktop App for macOS using the Wails framework and the Apple Neural Engine for super-fast inference.

6:55pm: πŸ—£οΈ Stuart Harris and Viktor Charpar: Crux: The next frontier in Cross-Platform App Development

Crux is a managed effect framework built in Rust to enable sharing application behaviour across every platform as a highly testable, side-effect-free core. We'll show how easy it is to develop high-quality apps with the DX improvements in the latest version of Crux.

7:25pm: Break

7:40pm: πŸ—£οΈ Bryan Boreham: Never Underestimate Memory Architecture

Tasked with a mixed audience of Gophers and Rustaceans, Bryan went for the layer that is common to both - the CPU executing the code.

All large servers adopt a design known as Non-Uniform Memory Access, where some memory is faster to access than the rest. Bryan will explain how this comes about, what it means for the performance of your programs, and what control you have over NUMA.

8:00pm: πŸ—£οΈ Giles Cope: EarthBuild is Docker and Make's love child

Earth Build is a Go-powered tool that uses the Dockerfile syntax you already know to define and run full CI pipelines locally. We'll show how efficient Rust Docker builds can be. Build, test, and ship with one unified workflowβ€”simple, fast, all in one place.

8:20pm: Break

8:30pm: Panel Discussion Q&A!

9:00pm: Pub!

==== πŸ’‘ RSVP Details πŸ’‘ =====

When submitting your RSVP for this event, please be sure to use your full first name and last name, as well as your company, as some of our venues require these in order to let you in on the door. Submitting your name as e.g. "John D" won't be enough! We also keep track of no-shows, so if you can't come, change your RSVP in advance!

==== πŸ’‘ Priority Queue πŸ’‘ =====

We reserve 20% of the attendee spots at our events for those who are underrepresented in tech.

If they join the waitlist and there is a reserved spot open they will be bumped into going!

These spots are reserved until the last Sunday before the event.

How do we define underrepresented? We use public surveys done by the tech community such as the ones linked below.

==== πŸ“’ Become a Speaker! πŸ“’ =====

Have something to say? We want to listen! We are always looking for new speakers who want to share their adventures with Go and have mentors who can help.

You can sign up to be a speaker here: https://gophers.london/apply

==== πŸŽ‰ Prizes & Discounts! πŸŽ‰ =====

As the lovely Rust community has arranged this event, we won't be doing our usual Raffle & Sponsor slots - keep an eye on our next event for their return!

Again, a huge thank you to Rust and Red Badger for organising!
