Hike from Sevenoaks to Ide Hill and Emmetts, Hilly 21km/13-miles, 560m ascent

Details

GRADE: Intermediate; 21km / 13 miles and hilly – 560m / 1800 ft of ascent

This new blood-pumping circular route takes us south-west of the charming and affluent market town on Sevenoaks in Kent. The county, often called The Garden of England, is known for its lush landscapes with abundance of stunning gardens and sprawling orchards. The route features plenty of scenic woodland and fields spread across hilly terrain, making it an excellent training opportunity for longer, more challenging events.

ROUTE:

We start and finish at Sevenoaks Station. After the initial 2km, we reach the first stretch of lovely woodland, which then transforms into a more open landscape of fields interspersed with smaller wooded areas. We then reach the Greensand Way, a 108-mile/174km long distance route stretching from Haslemere in Surrey to Hamstreet in Kent. We follow this stunning route, enjoying breathtaking panoramic views as we hike through Ide Hill, the highest village in Kent. Upon reaching Scords Wood we turn north and it is then only a short walk to our lunch stop at Emmetts, a National Trust site with tea rooms and toilet facilities.

Refreshed, and having done most of the climbing in the first half of the day, we cross a picturesque mosaic of fields as we make our way back to Sevenoaks, where the hike ends.
