Walking on the White Cliffs of Dover to Deal

GRADE: Beginner/intermediate Hike, 16km / 10 miles, 317m ascent, 4hr 30 mins walking time.

Join us to a serene hike following the Saxon Shore Way, offering us stunning views and a wealth of wildlife.

We start our walk directing to White Cliffs of Dover, an iconic landmark, being a symbol of war time defense, overlooking the English Channel. Exploring this area is like emerging in both history and nature.

We will visit the National Trust Foreland, a landmark of the White Cliffs. This is a Victorian lighthouse, built in 1846, worked with the lower light in the area to provide safe passage for ships (due to Goodwin Sands, which are constantly moving hence highly dangerous for the ships).

We continue hiking passing through St Margaret's Bay and Julius Caesar Memorial Plaque at Walmer. We arrive at picturesque Deal, a seaside resort with its lovely castle, its quaint streets and houses and many ancient buildings and monuments. We finish our hike to a marvellous pub to celebrate our day. Feel free to join us in a traditional pub for drinks and snacks before making our way back home, a decent way to finish a hike!

MEETING TIME: 08:30 at London St Pancras International, outside the main ticket office, near Gail’s.

TRAINS: 09:07 train from London St Pancras International arriving at Dover Priory at 10:12 journey time 1h 5m (direct). Return from Deal. A group save ticket return to Deal costs app £28
