The Magical Blenheim Palace and the Cotswolds

GRADE: beginner/intermediate 22.1km (13.7 miles), gentle, undulating countryside with good paths 5.30 hrs walking

This beautiful walk on the edge of the Cotswolds AONB takes us into the heart of the Oxfordshire countryside, we hike along the Evenlode Valley over rolling hills and fertile countryside through Bleinheim Palace, entering the park we will walk through the landscape designed by capability brown we will be passing the lake and the Victory Column dedicated to the Duke of Marlborough. The trail takes us along Akeman Street, the Old Roman road from Alchester to Cirencester still with some stone slabs intact.

We lunch by the river in the water meadows at Stonesfield Ford, before crossing the valley to arrive at the delightful stone village of Finstock we then enter Lord Rotherwick’s deer park, and Cornbury Park to finish in the historic and charming Oxfordshire village of Charlbury where you are free to return home or join us for a beer and some food.

MEETING TIME: 10,00 at Hanborough station

TRAINS: Trains from London Paddington station departs 08.52 and arrives at Hanborough at 09.55 journey time 1 hr 3mins. Return train from Charlbury.

WALK STARTS: 10.05 at Hanborough station.

Parking available at both stations (payable) train from Charlbury back to Hanborough

LUNCH: Pack lunch

WALK FINISHES: Approx 17:00 at Charlbury station
